Sahadat Rana Khan
Sahadat Rana Khan (born 7 January 1966) is an Indian classical musician in the Hindustani music tradition[1]. He belongs to the Patiala gharana, and is the son of the legendary Sangeet Acharya Md. Yunus Khan. He is married to Najhum Ara Razi.
In a story told in several versions, Pandit Dulal Roy once remarked that Sahadat Rana Khan Khan was the "assurance for the future of Indian vocal music".[2]
Early Life
Sahadat Rana Khan was born on 7 January 1966 in Malda, West Bengal, India. He was a commerce graduate from one of the most reputed colleges of Malda, and after a few brief years of professional life he started learning music from his father, Sangeet Acharya Md. Yunus Khan and from his uncle Ustad Abdul Khaleque Khan. After his father's death, he took taalim from the legendary stalwart, Ustad Rashid Khan and lately from Agra Gharana's torch bearer Ustad Waseem Ahmed Khan (Guru ITC Sangeet Research Academy).
Career
Sahadat Rana Khan has participated in many major concerts. Apart from rendering Khyals in her performances, she has occasionally adopted contemporary form of Indian pop music. He has performed at all the prestigious venues of India from the age of 20 and continued participating for the next 5 years. In his recitals, hepresents a mature and rhythmical swing succeeded by unrestrained taans in three and-a-half octaves.
He is now the the director of a Indian Classical Music Institution known as "Sabrang Sangeet Vidyalaya", that was founded by his father Late. Yunus Khan in 1960.
An audio CD with a raga created by Sahadat was released in August 2012. The audio CD comprised of two Raagas and one bhajan and he was accompanied by the legendary Tabla Maestro Pandit Samar Saha.
