Ronald Bruce Campbell aka Ron Campbell (born December 29,1943) is an Inventor of the Posture Cane that utilizes Campbell Handle Technology; a Biomechanical Functionality, that transcends a regular cane functionality to a T.A.D. Transitional Assistive Device, living in Florida, United States.[1]

The Campbell Handle Technology, used on the Posture Cane and T.A.D. were designed by inventor, Ronald Bruce Campbell.[2]

Early life

Ron Campbell is a woodworker, furniture-maker and industrial designer whose Scottish ancestry has always been a source of strength and pride. Campbell designed the original Campbell Handle™ in the mid-1980s as a hiking aid; however, it was only during his recovery from knee surgery in 2008 that proved the value of the Campbell Handle™ as a walking cane.

Professional career

In a world where mobility aids often carry a stigma or lack style, Ron Campbell dared to challenge the norm. With a blend of innovation and compassion, he introduced the "Campbell Posture Cane," a revolutionary mobility device that has transformed the lives of countless individuals worldwide. }}

Campbell came up with the idea after observing seniors and those with mobility issues, bent over canes. He felt it was demeaning, and started working on an idea in the basement, around 1982. Helped greatly after the surgery. While using the Campbell Handle, Ron felt an increased sense of security through added balance and support, and improved his mobility, especially for climbing stairs. He also believes it shortened his recovery time by increasing his ability to exercise and boosting his confidence. While we have no doubt that this is the future of the cane, don’t just take our word for it! He received endorsements from several doctors, chiropractors, physical therapists and other medical professionals in the medical community, who have recommended his products to their patients.

The 1st models were designed for a Parkinson’s patient who had balance and stability issues and was a power walker.

The rabbit ear was designed to prevent his hand from going over the handle top.

The biomechanics is considered by medical practitioners to be the next transition from a canẹ to a Transitional Assistive Device with a different functionality.

George Pasquarello, DO University Orthopedics says "The Campbell cane has several design features to support balance with less interference of the normal gait pattern and less force displaced onto the upper extremity joints. The handle allows a more natural grip without requiring the wrist to be the weight-bearing joint of the body. The increased length of the cane allows a person to stand more upright throughout the gait cycle and maintains a more natural position in the sagittal and coronal planes."

Comparative:

  1. Regular Canes, are designed to take pressure off from a joint, and offer the user limited stability and balance. This functionality has not changed in 100’s of years. This function creates downward pressure on the wrist and shoulder.
  2. The Posture Cane is a new transitional assistive device that is specifically designed for those with Balance, Stability, and Gait Issues. It is not designed to take pressure off from a joint.

Designed by Campbell Canes Inc., the Campbell Cane Ergonomic Walking Stick: Rabbit Edition features an innovative contoured grip designed to promote better posture and increases stability for individuals with mobility issues.
Unlike traditional canes which force the hand into a downward position and place stress on the user’s wrist and shoulder, the Campbell Handle allows the user’s hand to grip in a neutral position with wrist locked forward and slightly below horizontal, a grip specifically designed to alleviate stress on joints, work the triceps muscle and encourage the user to stand more upright, a posture which reduces pressure on the lungs and allows the user to face forward and up more easily. The curvature of the Campbell Handle allows the user to grasp the cane from multiple angles, including the standard, top, bottom and reverse grips, each meant to aid on different terrains. The Rabbit Edition, originally designed to aid a client with Parkinson’s, features an ear-like knob at the top which helps prevent the hand from slipping over the edge when grasped at the top (and gives the cane it’s distinctive profile).

Getting into/out of seated positions. Recently test by 25 patients of a Myrtle Beach occupational therapist. Not one of them could get out of a chair unassisted. I showed her the technique and gave her 25 Posture Canes to show her patients. All 25 can now get up unassisted. It is a very easy technique .

The Genesis of Innovation

Ron Campbell's journey into the realm of mobility aids stemmed from a deeply personal experience. Witnessing his wife's struggle with mobility issues due to chronic back pain, he recognized the limitations of traditional canes and walkers. Determined to find a solution that not only provided support but also promoted proper posture and comfort, Campbell embarked on a mission to innovate.

Cambell is currently working on Transitional Assistive Devices (T.A.D.) that can be changed from a regular cane, to a posture enhancing cane, to a Trekky pole, with the push of a button. He had worked with doctors for almost 40 years developing this functionality.

The Birth of the Campbell Posture Cane

Drawing upon his background in engineering and design, Ron Campbell meticulously crafted the Campbell Posture Cane. Unlike conventional canes that often exacerbate posture problems, his creation featured a unique ergonomic design with a comfortable handle and an adjustable height mechanism. The key innovation, however, lay in its innovative shape, which encouraged users to stand upright, thereby alleviating pressure on the spine and promoting better posture.

Revolutionizing Mobility with Style

Beyond its ergonomic benefits, the Campbell Posture Cane distinguished itself with its sleek and stylish appearance. Eschewing the clinical aesthetics of traditional mobility aids, Campbell infused his creation with a touch of elegance, ensuring that users felt confident and empowered while using it. This blend of functionality and fashion shattered stereotypes associated with mobility devices, garnering praise from users of all ages.
