The McKeil Spirit is a freighter operated by McKeil Marine.[1] She was originally an ocean-going vessel, but, in the late 2010s she was converted to serve as a dedicated cement carrier, intended to operate on the Great Lakes.

McKeil converted her to replace the Stephen B. Roman, which carried cement from Picton, Ontario, to Toronto, Rochester, and other great lakes ports.[1][2] The freighters are shorter and shallower than seawaymax freighters, so they could moor in smaller ports.

According to Rochester First, when she made her first trip of the yeat to Rochester, in 2021, the captain had to put the ship into reverse when the lift-bridge at the mouth of Rochester's Genesee River failed to rise.[2]
