Lewis T. Powell was born in Washington, District of Columbia, USA. He is an actor and producer, known for Chicago Med (2015), Padlock Men (2017), and Kings (2017).

Lewis Powell, known as "Lew" to his friends, is an American actor, filmmaker, and Master Barber. With a career spanning over 20 years in Hollywood, Powell has succeeded in various fields, including acting, filmmaking, and music.

Early Life and Education

Originally from Washington, DC, Powell comes from a family deeply rooted in the art of barbering. His father, a barber with 50 years of experience, and 17 other barbers in his extended family influenced Powell's early years. He began working in his family's barbershop at age 5, starting as a sweeper.

Powell graduated from Howard University with a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration & Management. He continued his education at UCLA, taking the Feature Film Development class under former Paula Wagner's Paramount-based company executive Sebastian Twardosz.

Acting Career

Powell has garnered over 30 broadcast television and film acting credits. He has appeared in different roles, from guest appearances on shows like "Chicago Med" to recurring roles such as Officer Norman on NBC's "CSI Las Vegas." Powell has also appeared in popular shows like "Dexter," "Bones," "MOM," and "ER." He has starred in films such as "Squatters" and "Kings," alongside Halle Berry and Daniel Craig.

Master Barber and Stylist

In addition to his work in the entertainment industry, Powell is a Master Barber with coast-to-coast experience. He has worked with clients from all walks of life and has styled the hair of over 50 celebrities, including 50 Cent, Wale, NFL's Takkarist Mckinley, Outkast's Big Boi and Andre 3000, Stevie J, John Singleton, Chris Paul "CP3", and Soldier Boy.

Filmmaking and Production Work

Powell has produced, directed, and produced several feature films, shorts, and music videos. He sold two feature films, one of which was acquired by Vanguard Cinema, a mockumentary entitled "How 2 Build A Rapper," featuring artists and producers such as Big Boi of Outkast, Jazze Pha, Zukhan Bey, and Badboys Chucky Thompson. He has also produced music videos starring comedians 'Pierre' and Oscar award-winner Mo'nique. His latest music video, "Dollar 2 The Rich" by artist LaRussell, which he directed and produced, has garnered multiple awards and official selections at film festivals.

He worked as Head of Production and Development for four years with Comedian Affion Crockett at the onset of his FOX debut show 'In The Flow' in 2011. He also served as a producer consultant to co-producer Ellen Miles on Ava DuVernay's documentary film 'This is the Life'.

Music Career

Powell's entertainment career began in music as a musician and artist. He produced and released albums under his independent record company Col'Beast Entertainment and worked with artists such as E-40, Too Short, Scarface, Born Jamericans Edley Shine, B-Legit, and Nonchalant. His single release "How We Do" featuring Nonchalant stayed on the Billboard charts for over 18 weeks, peaking at #2 on the Hot Rap Singles chart. His music has been featured on hit shows and in several other film and television shows. Powell has been featured in Source, XXL, Billboard, Vibe, and Impact Magazine for his accomplishments in the music industry.

Current Projects

Powell's award-winning Short Film 'PADLOCK MEN,' which he wrote, starred in, directed, produced, and scored, has completed the film festival circuit nationally and internationally with 29 Official Selections, 2 of which were Oscar-qualifying. The project has a total of 17 wins and nominations and is currently available on Amazon Prime. It is also in development for a series.
