Larsen iceshelves marked in red

The Larsen B ice-shelf was a geographical feature of Antarctica. It was named after Norwegian Polar explorer Carl Anton Larsen.

During January 31st to March 7th, 2002 the ice-shelf collapsed and broke up. The collapse was almost certainly a result of global warming. Approximately 3,500 square kilometers of ice broke off.

The ice cap is also the subject of the song "Oh Larsen B" by British rock group British Sea Power.
