Josh McKeekan was a mining engineer and journalist. He was born in 1903. He made his way to the Northwest Territories. In 1941 he married Mildred Hall, the first schoolteacher in Yellowknife. The pair collaborated on The Yellowknife Blade, which McKeekan had founded. They raised their daughter, Mildred McKeekan in a rustic cabin.

McKeekan published a book about the newspaper.
