Jennifer Robertson is Canadian lawyer, and the widow and heir of Gerald W. Cotten, the founder and CEO of QuadrigaCX, a Canadian bitcoin exchange service.[1][2][3][4] Robertson found herself at the centre of controversy after her husband's sudden death, at 30, in December 2018. She filed for bankruptcy protection of the company, on January 30, 2019.[5] In her affadavit she claimed that most of the cryptocurrency on deposit with the exchange was archived on her husband's personal laptop in cold wallets, and that only her husband knew the encryption key to unlock that laptop.[6]

Cotten's death was reported to have occurred, in India, from complications from Chron's disease, but some commentators have suggested that he may have faked his death, after embezzling his customer's deposits, leaving his widow holding the bag.[1]
