HeIsTheArtist is an American Christian singer-songwriter. He is known for his exceptional ability to reimagine secular music through a Christian lens.
He rose to fame with his cover for "Ungodly Hour" the original song, by Chloe x Halle, was transformed into a soul-stirring Christian R&B experience.
Early Life and Education
HeIsTheArtist was born as LeeMann Alexander Bassey in Central Islip, New York.
He was previously a secular neo-soul singer signed to "Bentley Records" under his biological name LeeMann Bassey. He later on discovered that his true calling was with God after hearing an inspiring sermon by TD Jakes online one day.
After the sermon, he was inspired to teach the world about the Lord just like TD Jakes did with his sermon, but through music.
Career
HeIsTheArtist uses his music to convey complex themes in a way that is accessible to a wide range of listeners.
His music is a mixture of Smooth Jazz and R&B with an added flare of nostalgia. His lyrics always stem from the Gospel and love in general.
His single, “Boom (Remastered)” hit #1 on the Christian/Gospel charts in South Africa, followed by a #1 iTunes Jazz mash-up of Britney Spears and Snoh Aalegra. The instrumental, “Snake Charmer” was HITA’s first release of 2021. It reached #8 on the UK EDM iTunes chart.
His 2022 single, “Boom (DooWop Version)” featuring an incredible intro vocal by Take 6’s Joel Kibble became his biggest hit to date, reaching #1 on the National Radio Hits Christian charts for 2 weeks! Dance track, “God Is On my Mind” reached the UK itunes Dance Songs chart Top 15.
On January 16th, 2023, HeIstheArtist will release a cover of Kelis’ “Caught Out There” from his forthcoming EP, “Under The Influence of Love (Acoustic Soul).”
He released a new EP titled “Under the Influence of Love (Acoustic Soul) in April, 2023. This body of work is a refreshing take on Christian music, featuring a blend of neo-soul and gospel, conveying themes of faith, heartache, and love.[1] [2]
