Grind Rod is a fictional character and third-party Transformer homage to Generation 1 Rollbar made by Toyworld in 2012.

Toyworld

Grind Rod is a third-party Transformer who turns into a truck. He is an homage to the 1987 Transformers character Rollbar.

According to his tech specs Grind Rod has above average capabilities in general, and is extremely tough and highly skilled.

Grind Rod combines with Aurora and his other team members to form a giant robot.

Development

In April 2012 Toyworld placed photos of Grind Rod on it's web site.[1]

Promotional photos of Grind Rod compared him to Backfiery.

Preorders for Grind Rod went up in September 2012.[2]

Grind Rod was released in November 2012.

In November 2012 TFsource confirmed that Grind Rod and the other members of his group formed a combiner.[3]

In 2013 Eness Toys released a label set for Grind Rod.

Reception

The WTF@TFW podcast for September 13th, 2012 selected a picture of Grind Rod as one of the New Picture Picks.[4]

In the TFormers.com News Desk podcast for November 10th, 2012 Grindrod's ability to combine was covered as a topic.[5]

In the Fwooshcast podcast for November 24th, 2012 one of the hosts talked about the Grind Rod he recently bought.[6]

The Retro Robot Radio podcast for August 2nd, 2014 covered the release the oversized Aurora, Grind Rod and Trace in the news.[7]

The bottom of the box has a co-sell for TW-T02 Aurora.
