Glider is a fictional character and third-party Transformer homage to Generation 1 Powerglide made by X-Transbots in 2011.

X-Transbots

Glider is an homage to the Autobot Powerglide. He turns from a robot to a Fairchild Republic A-10 Thunderbolt II jet, the same jet as Powerglide. He is also the same color and has the same motto and tech spec numbers.

According to his tech specs he is very fast, brave and skilled, but not very strong. He believes to stop him you have to catch him first.

Other third-party Transformers that homage Powerglide include Maketoys Bomber and iGear's Red Baron.

Development

Instructions for Glider appeared on the internet in July 2011.[1]

Glider was released in November 2011.

Images of Glider were displayed at TFcon 2013's Third Party Panel.[2]

Reception

The Good Morning, Cybertron! podcast for September 26th, 2011 discussed pictures of the Glider prototype in the news.[3]

The Radio Free Cybertron podcast for November 9th, 2011 covered Glider in the news.[4]

Toys

  • X-Transbots X1 Glider (2011)
Based on the Jizaitoys design, but released as a finished product.[5] Includes instructions, collector card, two grey guns and a knife.
The front of the box used for Glider features the artwork of Powerglide from the Dreamwave Productions Transformers More Than Meets The Eye comic and Powerglide's Generation 1 motto. The back of the box features a co-sell of X3 Tyrant (a Galvatron homage) and numbers identical to Powerglide's Generation 1 Tech Spec.
This toy was recolored into Wild Child and Kobra Power Rat. While packaged in jet mode, the instructions detail how to transform from robot to jet, meaning the first time you transform this toy you have to follow the instructions backwards.
  • X-Transbots X1 Glider Hot House (2011)
A recolor of Glider swapping red and white, inspired by the Autobot Micromaster Hot House and the initial release of Universe Ultra Powerglide. Limited to 50 pieces and sold exclusively through kotoys.com. This version has no faction symbols.
  • X-Transbots X1 Glider Hot House Deceiver (2011)
A recolor of Glider swapping red and white, inspired by the Autobot Micromaster Hot House and the initial release of Universe Ultra Powerglide. Limited to 50 pieces and sold exclusively through kotoys.com. This version has Decepticon faction symbols.
  • X-Transbots X1 Glider reissue (2013)
A recond run of Glider was done with some improvements. This version is easily identified by it's lack of Autobot symbols and red weapons. Because they ran out of boxes when packaging this run some were packaged in the white boxes intended for Wild Child/Explorer.
