Faridpur is a major city located in the Faridpur District, Dhaka Division, Bangladesh. It is a major commercial hub in Southern Bangladesh. It is the second most important district & largest municipality in Dhaka Division in city proper wise. It has an area of 66.31 km2 and a population of 557,632. Faridpur is Bangladesh's proposed ninth division & thirteenth city corporation.

Faridpur District (Bengali: ফরিদপুর জেলা) is a district in south-central Bangladesh. It is a part of the Dhaka Division.[4] It is bounded by the Padma River to its northeast. The district was named after the great sufi saint Farīd-ud-Dīn Masʿūd in British era. A separate district was created by severing Dhaka district in 1786 and was called Dacca Jelalpur. A municipality was established in 1869. Historically, the town was known as Fatehabad. It was also called Haveli Mahal Fatehabad.
