"What If" is a song by American R&B singer Aaliyah written by Durrell "Tank" Babbs, Jeffrey "J-Dub" Walker for Aaliyah's Third self entitled album Aaliyah (2001) The song never charted on the billboard charts.

Additional information

"What If" is the biggest stylistic departure from Aaliyah, and is the only heavy metal song recorded by her. The lyrics, which were not written by Aaliyah, are at times violent, where she talks about her lover cheating, claiming she will "burn you, cut you and kill you". It is her second song to use cussing, like "Read Between the Lines", but it is barely legible. The distorted guitar riff is in the key of D minor and bears some similarity to the intro of Rage Against the Machine's "Freedom". The song's bass line makes use of octaves such as those commonly found in disco. It has a moderate tempo and is in 4/4 time signature. [citation needed] During the song, the title is repeated a total of 107 times.
