The Prince of Ambra is a noble title created in 1734 by Pope Clement XII for Matteo Pignatelli Triangi Gritti, Prince and Count of the Holy Roman Empire. Gritti gave military aid to the Pontiff in order to suppress some rebellions in the region of Arezzo, as well as a great donation to the treasury of the Papal States. The name of the title is taken from the town of Ambra in Arezzo. The current dynastic heir and 9th Prince of Ambra is Georgios Marios Theocharopoulos, who inherited the title after the death of his maternal grandfather, Dimitrios Pignatelli Triangi, in 2016.
