Christians are defined as people who follow or adhere to Christianity, a monotheistic Abrahamic religion based on the life and teachings of Jesus Christ. The words "Christian" and "Christianity" are derived from the Koine Greek word Christós (Χριστός), a translation of the Biblical Hebrew term Moshiach (מָשִׁיחַ).


There are numerous sects and denominations of Christianity, including the Catholic Church, Protestantism, Eastern Orthodoxy, Mormonism, and Jehovah's Witnesses. Christianity is the world's largest religion, with over 1.3 billion followers worldwide. Christians comprise about 37% of the world's population and are mainly concentrated in Africa, Latin America, Europe, North America, and Oceania.
