The first character to bear the name Blastcharge was a Vehicon who appeared in the Beast Machines toyline as one of Megatron's generals, although he never appeared in the show. His toy bio indicated that while he was immensely dim and easily outwitted, he was second only to Tankor in terms of sheer brute force.

Blastcharge appeared in the "Wreckers" BotCon comic. Although Megatron mentioned him as having worked along his "namesake", no Decepticon with the name Blastcharge had appeared before (he could have been a classic Decepticon with other name, but it is unconfirmed).

His spark was taken by Megatron alongside that of Quake and implanted in a Vehicon body. They were then sent to take care of Primal Prime's group of Wreckers. Their first encounter in the base of Arcee was inconclusive, although Blastcharge managed to kill the Maximal Fractyl. The two then tracked the Wreckers to the crashed Autobot shuttle that had brought Optimus Primal's group back to Cybertron. However the Wreckers escaped the onslaught in the shuttle, with Quake being killed by Tigatron. Fractyl then returned as a transmetal, having been resurrected by Arcee, and killed Blastcharge.
