Bernie Madoff was an American financier who perpetrated a ponzi scheme.[1]

He targetted clients who were already wealthy, or who managed large funds. His victims included Elie Wiesel, the famed Nazi hunter.

In 2008, when the housing bubble collapsed, Madoff met with his two sons, Mark Madoff and Andrew Madoff. According to all three Madoffs, this meeting was the first time he informed his sons of his crimes. He is said to have requested they give him 24 hours to escape, before informing law enforcement. They decided, however, to call law enforcement right away, and Madoff was arrested.

He was convicted, and served the remainder of his life in Prison, dying on April 14, 2021.[1]
