Bali MMA is a Mixed martial arts gym located in Bali, Indonesia founded by Steve Suryadinata, Don-Carlo Clauss, Anthony Leone, and Andrew Leone. The team recruited world-class coaches and athletes from around the globe to collectively form one of the strongest competition teams in Asia today. The team is ranked Top 10 in Asia by Fox Sports and is proudly called home by a number of world champions in MMA, Kickboxing, Muay Thai, and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.[1]

Bali MMA has been a hotbed among international athletes, with the likes of Glory Super Bantamweight Champion Tiffany Van Soest and One Championship Strawweight World Champion Xiong Jing Nan who both have previously prepared their fights at the gym. It has also welcomed high-profile athletes in the past, including UFC Bantamweight Champion Aljamain Sterling, current UFC Flyweight Champion Valentina Shevchenko, Alistair Overeem, Antônio Rodrigo Nogueira (Minotauro), and many others.[2][3]

Background

Steve Suryadinata started his interest in Mixed Martial Arts in early 2014 when he initially opened Jakarta Muay Thai & MMA. As the interest grew, he watched how fellow Indonesians were constantly on the losing-side and badly beaten at the international stage. Wanting to raise the level of MMA in Indonesia, he utilized his networks to get in touch with the global MMA community with the idea of bringing some of the world’s best coaches and athletes to Indonesia. After several considerations including valuable inputs from Indonesia’s MMA legend Fransino Tirta, he decided to partner with Andrew Leone who brought along his brother Anthony Leone and Don Carlo Clauss who was a team mate of Anthony at Phuket Top Team and Team Bombsquad New York. The quartet then started working together to open a gym Bali and today they are known as the four founders of Bali MMA.

Overview

The gym quickly grew and become to what it is today as world-class international athletes from around the world moved to Bali to join the team. One of the earliest members to join the team was Tiffany Van Soest, a current Glory Super Bantamweight Champion, a former WBC Muay Thai World Champion, and a former Lion Fight Muay Thai World Champion.

As elite fighters of the team continue to compete internationally, the gym continues to support and train local fighters to raise their skills with the goal of promoting them internationally. In 2019, the team was selected to prepare and train the Indonesian National MMA team to compete at IMMAF World Championship in Bahrain.
