Alexander Mirza is an Asian-American entrepreneur, investor and thought leader in the hospitality industry.[1] He is the Founder and CEO of Mogul Hotels, a venture backed hospitality tech company.[2][3]

Early life and education

Mirza was born in India but raised in Toronto. He later immigrated to the United States and currently resides in Los Angeles. He holds a Bachelor of Arts and Sciences degree and a Master from Queen's University at Kingston where he was an Aga Khan Foundation Scholar and published his thesis on reforming United Nations peacekeeping operations.[4] He later graduated with an MBA from Harvard Business School where he was the recipient of the McArthur Canadian Fellowship.

Career

Mirza worked for several years in top tier management consulting industry advising CEOs and Heads of State in growth and innovation.[5][6] Among his C-Suite clients were Royal Dutch Shell, The Vanguard Group, World Economic Forum, LG Electronics, Ticketmaster, and MGM Resorts International (MGM).[7]

Mirza transitioned to work in hospitality and entertainment C-Suites in corporate strategy and development roles, reporting to several CEOs including Barry Sternlicht, Gary Loveman and Sam Nazarian.[8][9][10] He ran the food and beverage, spas, and fitness divisions at Hilton,[11][8] and non-gaming, including hotels, restaurants and nightlife at Caesars Entertainment.[12]

Mirza has led high profile deals including Hilton’s expansion into luxury hotels and resorts with the Waldorf Astoria brand development,[13] Caesars expansion into non-gaming hotels[14] and many first developments in Vegas including Nobu Hotel, Gordon Ramsay, Drai’s, and Ticketmaster’s merger with Live Nation Entertainment.[15][16][17]

As a co-founder of Cachet Hotels & Resorts, Mirza is one of the very few foreigners who has built a hotel brand inside Mainland China for the Chinese market.[18][19][20][21][22][23] Mirza further expanded its portfolio across China, Southeast Asia, and eventually North America, raising four rounds of capital for the company.[24][25][26][27][28][29]

In 2019, Mirza founded Mogul Hospitality, a venture backed AI and technology company[30] and is the current CEO.[31] In 2021, he partnered with data scientists and software developers to launch MogulRecruiter, the industry’s first AI-powered talent marketplace. In 2022, he launched Mogul Hotels and Residences, an AI-driven hotel brand that is powered by a proprietary talent engine.[32] He formerly served as a board member for Cachet Hotels & Resorts, Ticketmaster China, and Wahlburgers Asia Pacific.[33][34]

Alexander Mirza serves on the advisory board of Cornell Center for Innovative Hospitality Labor and Employment Relations (CIHLER), and technology company, KiwiTech.[35][36]

Publications

Alexander Mirza is the author of the book titled Talent Disruption: People Are The Brands, Leveraging Artificial Intelligence To Scale Human Capital published by Business Expert Press (2023).[37] The foreword is written by Professor Dave Sherwyn at Cornell CIHLER.

Heis also the author of Peacekeeping, Peacemaking and World order: A Study of the Post-Cold War United Nations System' (1993), Queen’s University Press.[38][39]

Personal Life

Mirza is married to Barbara Mirza, a managing partner and board member at Cooley LLP, a leading technology law firm,[42] known for its technology and life sciences practices as well as its experience with marquee initial public offerings (IPOs) and deep-rooted venture capital connections & financings. They have a daughter together. His brother, Faisal Mirza, is a Federal Judge of the Superior Court of Justice of Ontario, a law professor at the University of Toronto and previously a National Security Advisor to Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.[43]
