The Agenzia Informazioni e Sicurezza Esterna is an Italian intelligence service.[1] It is a civilian intelligence agency.[2] Its responsibility is gathering foreign intelligence. It was founded in 2007, to replace the SISMI, a military intelligence agency.
According to its English language web-site, its responsibilities include: "...safeguarding national security from threats originating within Italy’s borders, and for protecting Italy’s political, military, economic, scientific and industrial interests."[1]
