The Bluefin is one of the training vessels operated by the Australian Maritime College.[1][2][3][4]

The vessel is 34 meters long, and her normal speed is 10 knots.[1][2][3][4] She was built in 1981, in Launceton, Tasmania.[5] She can carry 20 student-trainees in addition to her crew.

The college also makes the vessel for charter, and it has been employed by the Royal Australian Navy, and on a charter to rescue stranded researchers at Macquarie Island. Some voyages carry scholars from Australia's National Environmental Science Programme.[6]
