Savvy Turtle (born James D. Wilson; May 4, 1981) is a genre-bending recording artist, songwriter, entrepreneur, and wounded veteran. His collaborative hits include Domesticated Man, which was produced in 2021 featuring Ryan Whyte Maloney.[1][2]

Early life and education

Savvy Turtle was born in New Orleans, Louisiana. He served in the U.S. Army while pursuing his Ph.D. in Astrophysics. During this time, he suffered from traumatic brain injury and spinal cord injury. He graduated from L. W. Higgins High School and enrolled at Harvard University. He later enrolled at The University of Mississippi and Texas A&M University.

Career

Savvy Turtle launched the record label Savvy Turtle Records on January 13, 2000, in Madison, Mississippi, which also designs and creates apparel. In 2003, he left the record label while handing over control to his friends because he had joined the U.S. Army that required his overseas services.[3][4]

During his time in the U.S. Army, the record label suffered mismanagement, but Savvy Turtle later dealt with that.[5] Savvy Turtle, through his record label, produced Domesticated Man featuring Ryan Whyte Maloney in 2021.[6]
