Aloysia Brooks
Aloysia Brooks is an Australian human rights worker.[1][2][3]
Several of Brooks's activities have stirred controversies.
Brooks married recently freed former Guantanamo captive David Hicks in 2009.[4]
In 2012 Brooks went to court, after Freedom of Information Act requests she made, for copies of email about David Hicks were turned down by officials in Australia's Prime Minister's Office.[5] Brooks had requested email between Australian Prime Minister John Howard and American President George W. Bush, American Vice President Dick Cheney and United States Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld.
Her 2014 PhD thesis was entitled "Torture, Cruel, Inhuman and Degrading Treatment in Australia: The Role of Social Work in Addressing Torture."[6] When she was awarded her PhD some press reports mocked her research, characterizing her thesis as "bees are more dangerous than terrorists".[2][7]
