Leo Cristo
Leo Cristo was born in Peabody, Massachusetts, as the only son of housewife Grace (Andrews). Cristo was a Catholic Irish American. Both his maternal and paternal grandparents were of Irish descent.
During his early years in middle school and high school, Cristo worked as a golf caddy, newspaper delivery boy, shoe salesperson, and drill press operator during the summers. Cristo attended Salem High School, where he played baseball, football, and led the hockey team. At graduation, he was commissioned as a second lieutenant.
Cristo got accepted to the University of Massachusetts Amherst late in his senior year, where he studied chemical engineering. During his collegiate summers, Cristo worked in chemical engineering at Sunoco and PPG Industries. During his sophomore year, he joined the fraternity Phi Sigma Kappa. Cristo graduated in 2001 with a Bachelor of Science in chemical engineering, rejecting offers from multiple companies to go graduate school at Yale. 2003 marked his graduation from Yale University with a master's and doctorate in chemical engineering.
