SHIVANI THAPLIYAL

Shivani Thapliyal born 13 March 1993. Shivani Thapliyal, is  a Life & Mental Health Coach, Writer, Director, Producer, Filmmaker and Researcher from Delhi, India. She is known for her documentaries on mental health. She is creating honest awareness on mental health and illnesses because she knows how it feels when people disrespect and make fun of mental illnesses, as she is also suffering from three mental disorders. Currently with the mental illnesses, she is also a cancer patient.

Early life

She started her career as an anchor as she learned the radio jockey in 2011. She moved to Mumbai in 2012 and there she started her career as an artist coordinator and actor. Then she worked as a ghost writer in many screenplays, worked with yahoo and BOC as a content writer or caption writer,  she solely managed 21 indoor shoots of a brand and 4 outdoor shoots. She has completed her post graduation in psychology and now she works as a life and mental health coach and as a Director, Producer, Filmmaker, Researcher and Writer.

Career

She published a research book on mental health, “End The Mental Stigma”, featuring the creativity of mentally disordered people and their interviews. She made nine documentaries on Mental Health Awareness and Mental illness Awareness. Her goal is to create genuine awareness on mental health and illness. India is a very superstitious country because we believe in supernatural powers and that is the reason it's very difficult to make them understand that our brain can get affected. So to remove the stigma of mental health in our country we need to create honest awareness which shouldn't harm any person's belief. She has covered the majority of topics, like mental illness and intelligence are two different things, after having name, fame and money, what drives people to commit suicide etc.

Personal life

She belongs to a gadwali family, originally from tehri gadwal, Uttarakhand. Since childhood she is suffering from mental illnesses. Her mother is also a schizophrenic but she never takes medicines as her will power have a huge control on behaviour and mind and that's how she has made Shivani a strong headed person. Her father is a retired bank employee and he supported her wife and daughter throughout life till now. She also has a younger sister but she is not affected with any kind of mental illnesses.

Awards

She received an Dr. Sarojini Naidu International Award in 2020. She received an Award from Zee Salaam in 2023.

Filmography

She has made 9 documentaries on mental health covering the topic of how a mental illness and intelligence are different, why people commits suicide, why companies don't hire a mentally ill person, unique approaches on creating awareness about mental health, why mental health stigma is still a stigma, she also covered the mental health act 2017 and also about the caregivers challenges when it comes to mental health.
