Template:Userspace notes Sixto David Fernandez is a friend of baseball player David Ortiz.[1] On June 19, 2019, Dominican Republic investigators asserted they suspected that the shooter who wounded Ortiz really intended to shoot Fernandez.

Fernandez was a regular at the Dial Bar and Lounge, in Santo Domingo, where the shooting occurred, and Ortiz was dressed similarly to Fernandez.[1]

Victor Hugo Gómez Vasquez of the Gulf Cartel is suspected of being the mastermind of the shooting.[2] Officials said they suspected he had offered the shooters $8,000 for shooting Fernandez.
