History

Generation 1

Animated series

The Plasma Energy Chamber appears in the series finale of The Transformers, where the Decepticons steal its key and attempt to claim it's power for themselves; this inadvertently launches several of them and the Autobots across the galaxy to Nebulos, where the Headmasters and Targetmasters are born and Scorponok and Fortress Maximus are subsequently created. The chamber's energy eventually revitalized Cybertron, bringing about a new Golden Age.

In Beast Machines, the Plasma Energy Chamber is rediscovered by Optimus Primal through the aid of the Oracle, and revealed to have the ability to destroy completely mechanical Transformers and technology. Fanatically believing that Cybertron must be purged of all such constructs to pave the way for a fully organic planet inhabited by technoorganic Transformers, Optimus prepares to unleash it against Megatron as Megatron is preparing to utilize the power of the Key to Vector Sigma. The resulting clash of energies kills Tankor and Optimus, though the latter is revived, and split's Megatron's essence between Noble and the Grand Mal.

In Transformers: The Headmasters, the Plasma Energy Chamber played a very different role, in which a Decepticon plot by Scorponok led to explosives being placed at it. This unleashed a plasma explosion that left Cybertron virtually destroyed, forcing the Autobots to relocate to Athenia and Earth while Rodimus Prime sought out a new homeworld where they could live in peace.
