James W. Phillips (born December 12, 1973) is a British businessman who is the CEO and founder of the JWP Media Group.[1]

Early Life and Education

Phillips was born and raised in Colchester, Essex and grew up in a farming family, his father managing E.W. King & Co and his Grandfather Managing Director. He was the 5th generation of his family to have worked on the farm. His mother is a professional florist, having trained at Constance Spry in London. His sister managed the chocolate department at Fortnum & Mason, Piccadilly and became a PA at St Pauls Cathedral. His uncles were highly academic, one with a Physics Ph.D and a career in the nuclear sector, and the youngest an ArchPriest of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia (ROCOR).[2]

Phillips has a naval heritage, his great grandfather being ship wrecked on HMS Otranto in World War 1, and latterly serving on the private yacht of Lord Guinness the Fantome II, renamed the Belem, with both grandfather’s serving in the Mediterranean and Middle East Theatre of operations in World war Two.

Phillips attended the Colchester Boy’s High School, the same school as his father and God father. He went on to the Colchester Sixth Form College, the Colchester Institute, and studied for a B.A Hons. at Anglia Ruskin University, Cambridge in 1997. He spent his spare time in his 20’s and 30’s working with his father on the farm and buying and restoring World War Two military vehicles and farm machinery. His father was naturally gifted in this field, having co-founded the Essex Locomotive Society who rescued and restored back to steam, three locomotives to mainline standard.[3]

Phillips is a talented portrait artist specialising in oil on canvas with a planned gallery exhibition commencing on the Riviera. His deputy headmaster once said when awarding Phillips the Ashdown art trophy in 1990 that James Phillips is an outstanding artist and colourist,’ while his art teacher prophesised that one day 'you will become a great artist'

Business Career

Phillips spent 17 years in magazine and book publishing in London, Essex and Suffolk managing the production for financial magazines such as Bloomberg Money and Financial Times, consumer titles and well-known children’s books for Penguin. In 2011 he changed careers into financial services, working for the UK financial services regulator, the City of London Corporation and in 2014 joined Vitality, part of the Discovery Group as head of marketing compliance and regulation for VitalityLife.

In 2014, he developed his own luxury news site luxurynewsonline.com and began his journey as an entrepreneur while continuing his life in the corporate world in the City of London. He went on to develop his own print magazine, Luxury life International, after being inspired while staying on the banks of Lake Geneva and launched the magazine in Monte Carlo in 2017 at a celebrity VIP event at Le Méridien Beach Plaza. At this time, Phillips was managed by his agent Melanie Faldo.

In 2019 he was engaged to manage public relations for a local sculptor, Simon Bacon, and began to attract more clients, through his lifestyle on the French Riviera and in Monaco and subsequently was asked to mentor high school children in New York at the La Salle Institute, Albany, NY and developed with Mike Levy, head of the advanced marketing class, the Global Business Education Initiative. In 2019 the JWP Media Group was formed and now manages the PR and digital marketing campaigns for international clients, including celebrities, business leaders and individuals with it’s own digital magazine, Relentless. He is also co-founder of Infinity8, luxury lifestyle and Formula One experiences and spends his time between the French Riviera and the United Kingdom.

Recognition and Board Memberships

Recognition and Board Memberships Phillips was voted in the top 100 most influential people in Essex and is an executive board member of the Luxury Advisory Board (LAB) and the Global Business Education Initiative under the Phillips Foundation. The JWP brand was trademarked in 2019.
