Dan Tarr was one of four United States Coast Guard seamen to whom the Unites States Navy awarded a Silver Star for how bravely they commanded landing craft carrying US Marines during the invasion of the Pacific Ocean island of Tulagi, during World War 2.[1] On December 2017 the Coast Guard announced the four men, Miller, Dan Tarr, Glenn Harris and William Sparling would be the namesakes for the 38th, 36th, 44th and 54th Sentinel class cutters.[2]
