Fictional biography

Tech specs:

A fast-moving fighting machine. Always the first to arrive and the first to start shooting. Brash, impulsive. Acts like someone with his foot on the accelerator. Built-in thermal and geological sensors in helmet home in on enemy installations and fuel supplies. High-density outer armor emits laser beam force field that can withstand direct enemy bombardment. Equipped with state-of-the-art, radar-targeting electron assault rifle. Also armed with laser-guided, programmable pulse blaster that flies and functions by remote control. Rocket car has all-terrain capabilities and can reach speeds of Mach 1.

Dreamwave Productions:

Biography: If there's something to be done, Groundbreaker wants it done now, and he's more than happy to be the one to do it. This applies even when others don't ask nor want him to take action. Groundbreaker's always in battle mode, ready to open fire on an enemy position even before his comrades can figure out a suitable battle strategy in case of counterattack. This attitude carries over into his personal life, sometimes with negative results. Although he's friendly, he can also be brutally honest, blurting out unpleasant things that his friends don't really want to hear. He doesn't do it to be vindictive or mean; he's just not very tactful and has no time for misdirection. For Groundbreaker, the only way to go is straight ahead and at top speed.

Weapons/abilities: Subject has great strength, which is augmented by his Pretender-shell. His shell's helmet has thermal and geological sensors, and the shell itself can emit a laser-shield that can block all but the most powerful energy attacks. In this mode, he is armed with an electron assault rifle that uses radar-targeting technology. He can also use a remote-controlled pulse cannon that flies and operates on its own. This is the primary weapon in his vehicle mode, which can reach speeds of up to Mach 1. In robot mode, he uses a standard energy pistol.

Weaknesses: Subject's laser shield is very draining on his Energon reserves. His thoughtless nature gets him into dangerous situations, including overusing his shield in combat.

Comics

1984 Marvel Comics

Although not seen or mentioned directly, Groundbreaker was among the Autobots who joined Fortress Maximus in leaving Cybertron for the planet Nebulos (Transformers: Headmasters issue 1). Unfortunately, they were followed to Nebulos by the Decepticons under Scorponok, leading war to break out once more. Fortress Maximus's band left Nebulos for the planet Earth, with the Decepticons in close pursuit. (Transformers: Headmasters issue 4).

Splashdown, Groundbreaker, Cloudburst, Landmine, Waverider and Sky High stand guard against Decepticon attack at Alternate Reality, Inc. in The Transformers issue 40 by Marvel Comics

When Brainstorm needed subjects to duplicate a Decepticon Pretender experiment, Groundbreaker and five other Autobots volunteered and became the Autobot Pretenders. They fought the Decepticon Pretenders with the help of Optimus Prime and Goldbug (Transformers issue 40). They soundly defeated their Decepticon Pretender rivals, who initially thought they were simply large humans.

Dreamwave Productions

Groundbreaker did not appear in any fiction from Dreamwave Productions, but did get a one page biography in their "More Than Meets The Eye" series.

IDW Publishing

In "Stormbringer Part 1" Groundbreaker is stationed on board the Autobot Orbital Command Hub, eagerly awaiting the call to battle.

Cloudburst, Groundbreaker, Landmine and Waverider appear in Spotlight: Hardhead investigating the Benzuli Expanse and reporting to Jetfire.

In Spotlight: Doubledealer Cyclonus was later patrolling the Benzuli Expanse with Galvatron to look for those who would disturb the Expansion. Upon spotting Cloudburst's ship, Cyclonus called "dibs" and Galvatron happily let Cyclonus attack the vessel.

A new mold. Turns from robot to race car. Groundbreaker comes with a Pretender shell, helmet, belt and a rifle. The shell looked like a human male in an orange suit which looks like a lion's head.[1]
