Desolataur is a fictional character and third-party Transformer homage to Dauros and Skullgrin made by Play With This Too. He is a powerful Space Demon.

Lost Protectors

Desolataur was made by Play With This Too as part of their Lost Protectors series. He is an evil fire-breathing Space Demon. He carried the Sword and Desolation and has a demon imp possessed Tech Drone companion named D-Mon who converts into a space ship or shield and has arms that become Hades Cannons.

Desolataur cannot overtly lie to a mortal being, although he often twists the truth to deceive others.

In an interview Rik Alvarez said Desolataur talks like Christopher Walken.

In an interview Trent Troop likened Desolataur to Horde Prime from She-Ra: Princess of Power and Stampede from Bravestarr.

Development

Desolataur is an homage to Daruos and Skullgrin. Desolataur and D-Mon were designed by Steve Redinger. Desolataur's sword and D-Mon were modeled by Peer Brauner.

When teasing Desolator Play With This Too posted "Maybe we should reveal one of our monster designs next? We're thinking of a guy who doesn't PRETEND to be pure evil... He is pure evil."

Desolator's design was revealed at Retrocon 2014. His name was changed to Desolataur from a suggestion by Trent Troop.

In an interview on WTF@TFW2005 Rik Alvarez said that Desolataur was a demon and could come with a cape accessory. He posted a concept image of the cape on Facebook asking for feedback.

In December 2014 a picture of the the prototype sword for Desolataur, being held by FansToys Scoria, was posted to Facebook. Christopher Dalhberg also released the first render of the body for Desolataur.

Play With This Too started a Kickstarter crowd funding campaign on February 27th, 2015. It offered several figures as backer rewards, including Desolataur, and had a funding goal of $80,000. The campaign ended short of its goal with only $71,625 pledged.[1]

In June 2015 Play With This Too announced they would be doing another Kickstarter. Desolataur would not be among the figures offered in this Kickstarter, and it was being reworked to offer more articulation.[2]

In March 2017 Prize Inside released three versions of his Sword of Desolation and a Titan Master Desolataur helmet on their Shapeways store.

Fictional biography

Desolataur art

Desolataur is a pure evil Space Demon. He carries sword and has a demon imp possessed Tech Drone companion named D-Mon.

His legend is older than recorded time. To many, Desolataur is the darkest terror in creation. Trapped with his fellow demons in ages past, he must be summoned through the Portal of Desolation to walk this plane of existence. His sorcery can span the gulfs of space and he commands spells of deception, inception and temptation. All forms of life; living and undead, good and evil, recoil in fear from dread Desolataur, though there are always those mad or foolish enough to summon him. Though he can be staggered by magical combat, only the proper ritual can return him to his prison.
One of the 66 Weapons of Ultimate Evil, the Sword of Desolation, channels the evil of its wielder into raw destructive force. The cursed blade grants a dread certainty in those who wield it, banishing weaknesses like doubt, mercy and compassion.

According to the biography for Bloodbath, the vampire turned to Desolataur's service in the hopes of gaining supremacy over the vampire covens.

The biography for Boneyard mentions that he ripped out the Desolataur’s heart in the galactic arenas.
