Mech IDeas

Apex is a third-party Transformer homage to Generation 1 Topspin created by Mech IDeas.

According to an interview with Mastermind Creations publicist Ceno Kibble, Mastermind Creations worked with Mech IDeas designer Mel Warner to get them started. Kibble stated he wrote the biographies for Apex and Geminus, and that they will appear in his Reformatted Universe stories.[1]

Apex is not related to the Transformers character Apex Bomber.

Development

The Apex and Geminus molds were design by Cassy Sark using the name Mel Warner.

Apex and Geminus were first previewed at TFcon 2012.[2]

In a survey on the TFW2005 forums held in July 2012, members were polled as to whether they prefered the upcoming Apex and Geminus or Generations Topspin and Twin Twist. Apex and Geminus were preferred by over 78% of those who responded.[3]

Mal Warner posted designs of Apex and Geminus on Facebook in September 2012.[4]

Prototypes of Apex and Geminus were reviewed in a Youtube video in November 2012.[5]

Preorders for Apex and Geminus were listed at Big Bad Toy Store in December 2012.[6]

Apex and Geminus were released in February of 2013.

Reception

In the TF Beyond podcast for December 6th, 2012 Apex and Geminus were covered as a topic.[7]

In the Fwooshcast podcast for June 2nd, 2013 one of the hosts talked about the Mech IDeas Apex and Geminus he recently purchased.[8]

Fictional biography

Apex is the serious one of the group, and many of the other members of the Demolition Crue think of him as the older brother of the two. With words like serious, people tend to think of buzzwords such as competent, knowledgeable, athletic, and assertive. The truth is, Geminus tends to be better than Apex at most things, but the thing that really annoys Apex is deep down he knows Geminus isn't really trying. Apex has dedicated his entire life to bettering himself, partly for the Steelian cause but mainly to be better than his brother; worst of all is on the rare occassion he actually is better than his brother at something, Geminus is so nice and encouraging about it, it winds Apex up even more.

Loves a fight, with fists of weapons, and is never afraid to be the first one on the battlefield or the first one to volunteer for a dangerous mission, a trait he shares with his brother - probably due to their shared spark. He likes to tell people his nickname is "the Cat", but he doesn't seem to realize it's an ironic nickname, because he never, ever lands on his feet when coming in for a landing.

Comics

Apex appears in the Seraphicus Prominon pack-in instruction/comics story, "The Raid, Part 3".
